About T.S. Mulhern
My father was always into taking family vacation photos and back in those days everything was put on 35mm slides. At all the family functions we would pull out the projector and pull-up screen and dad would review and narrate.
I started with black and white film taking pictures of everything with my new F2 Camera. We would take the film to the local pharmacy for developing and wait weeks for the pictures to return and see what a terrible job I did. This went on for a couple of years until I was a freshman in high school and the art department put in a dark room. The ability to process your own images and get results quickly had me hooked for life. I used that Nikon F2 camera all through high school. Now that I was always in the art room, I started painting, drawing, sculpting, as well as taking pictures. I had a great art teacher who developed my passion for both photography and art. I spent the next four years doing three things, working in our family hardware store, playing sports or spending time in the art room in that order.
Working in the hardware store with my parents and four brothers was a great learning experience for life. I became part plumber, electrician, carpenter, mechanic, and learned how to work with my hands. I am the youngest of the 5 "Mulhern Boys" so I had four older brothers to look up to and admire. They could be the four best people you could ever meet - just behind my dad!
Going into my senior year of high school, I submitted my portfolio and was accepted into the Pittsburgh Institute for Art. I wish I had some of those old paintings, drawings, and photos still. I am not sure what happened to them. I had two older brothers attend John Carroll University and at the last minute, I applied to JCU and was accepted. Now I had a choice on my hands. I decided I did not want to be a starving artist and went to JCU and received a BSBA in Finance. I went straight into banking and began my 30-year business career. I received an MBA from the Weatherhead School of Management at Case Western Reserve University. I quickly moved out of Finance and into Marketing - closer to my passion for art and photography. Over those 30 years, I continued to craft my photography and art skills.
My success in the business world has enabled me to devote more time to my passion and enabled me to become a professional photographer and artist.
